Ballylanders is a village located in County Limerick in the south of Ireland. Its name in Irish is Baile an Londraigh. De Londres is an old Norman surname (French meaning "from London") which translated into English today is Landers. Ballylanders means either Town of Landers or Town of the Londoner. Ballylanders is situated in the south east of Limerick in the Ballyhoura region. It is bounded by the Galty Mountains in the east, the Ballyhoura Mountains in the south. To the west lies the Black Hill and the Sliabh Riach, and to the north-west lies Duntryleague. The Morning Star river rises from a spring in Dineen's field and flows under the bridge on the Bog Road forming the boundary between Ballylanders and Glenbrohane. Ballylanders is centrally located, being 9 miles north from Mitchelstown, 25 miles from Limerick, 12 miles from Tipperary Town and 40 miles north from Cork City. The nearest town, Kilfinanne, lies 6 miles to the west. Overlooking the village are two hills, Carraturk Hill and Glenahoglisha Hill. These were formed when the ice melted.
